The Lawrence A. Dowdy Multicultural Center (LADMC), was dedicated on October 21, 2016 in honor of Lawrence A. Dowdy for his years of devoted service to West Chester University.

Mission: To help provide and maintain a supportive environment that promotes the academic achievement and personal development of more than 3,700 African-American, Latino/a, Asian-American, and Native American Indian students at the University.


 - to promote multicultural student success by serving as a home-base and point for coordination of programs, services and referrals.

 - to serve as a campus gathering place and resource/programming center for all students and other members of the University community to enhance awareness and appreciation of diversity and inclusion.

- to provide a space for prospective and first year multicultural students to identify with as they anticipate and begin their collegiate experience.

- to enhance alumni engagement by partnering with former multicultural students and alumni organizations.


The Center Serves as a Home-Base for Students in:

  • The Lawrence A. Dowdy Multicultural Center Mentoring Program
  • The Multicultural Organizational Advisory Board (MOAB) 

This centralization of staff in one location promotes the coordination of services, programs and resources for more than 3700 multicultural students on campus.  The center provides access to computers, study tables and sofas for students to lounge comfortably.

The center is located on the ground floor of Sykes Union, Room 003, adjacent to the University Campus Store and the Sykes Theatre.

Center Hours:  Consistent with Sykes Union Building hours.
